“Digital and Sustainable Transition of the Textile and Fashion Value Chain in Catalonia”

The Congress Center at TecnoCampus hosted the innovation day “Digital and sustainable transition of the textile and fashion value chain in Catalonia,” with the attendance of about 150 representatives from companies, industry associations, and government agencies. In the various interventions, the desire of the textile and fashion value chain to see the challenge of sustainability as an opportunity for growth and the creation of new businesses through innovation was made clear. In this sense, the sector is committed to an equation aimed at taking advantage of the challenges that sustainability and digitalization bring to be more competitive, grow, and reindustrialize activity in Catalonia.

A good example of this innovative capacity was the projects presented at the Reimagine Textile awards, organized jointly by the Mataró City Council, the Eurecat technology center, and TecnoCampus. This program provides entrepreneurs, startups, and companies in the sector with an incubation space and a FabLAB (textile manufacturing and prototyping laboratory) for the creation of new businesses. The winners of yesterday were Sustein (Innovation plus and Sustainability and Circular Economy awards); Ubra (Functional Textile award); and Rrent (Digital Business Model award). All of them will enjoy a discounted stay at the incubator, in addition to the financial endowment of the award.

Prior to the event, as part of ACTE, a work session was held where representatives of current entrepreneurs in the industrial policy of the main Catalan cities with a textile tradition – Mataró, Sabadell, Igualada, Terrassa, and Manresa – along with the presidents of the guilds, clusters, and technology centers specializing in the textile and fashion value chain, shared territorial experiences of economic development in the sector and identified present and future challenges to strengthen business competitiveness at a time when there is a return of zero-kilometer production.

Yesterday’s event was sponsored by companies in the textile and fashion value chain. Specifically, the fashion firm Bobo Choses as a sponsor of SYLVER; the technical fabric manufacturer SportWearFabrics and the fashion brand Colibrí as sponsors

BRONZE. And, finally, EPSON, a company with solutions for the digitalization of the textile sector, also a BRONZE co-sponsor.

At the conference, Emili Rousaud, CEO of Factor Energia, advised business owners to invest in facilities that allow them to supply their own energy, as he predicted that high gas and electricity prices will remain. “As a country, we have a privileged position to supply and export wind and solar energy,” he said.

Jaume Ferrús, Vicepresident of Eurecat; Francesc Casas, President of Asegema; Sergi Morales, Councilor for Employment and Business, Social Economy, Entrepreneurship, Industry, and Industrial Parks; and David Bote, Mayor of Mataró, pointed out in their speeches that the role of public-private collaboration is to contribute to the innovation of the textile and fashion industry with deep roots and the possibility of continued growth. At the round table discussion featuring Finsa, Hilaturas Arnau, Texia, and Bobo Choses, there was a consensus that sustainability is an opportunity for the future.
